There are 7 reasons you shouldn’t surround yourself with people who are just like you – and its more than just a “feel good” factor – your business success depends upon it..!
They “Get” Us
Most of us know this feeling: there are some colleagues or employees who just ‘get’ us.
They understand what we say, we don’t have to spend ages explaining ourselves.
That feels brilliant, doesn’t it?
They Irritate You
Most of us also know this feeling: there are some colleagues or employees who just don’t ‘get’ you at all.
They take what you say the wrong way, they irritate you, or you irritate them. You just don’t seem to be able to communicate.
As a business owner or manager, it’s tempting to pick people for our team who fall into the first camp.
At INTEGRUS, we know that’s not the best thing for your business.
We know that people tend towards four different behaviour styles, and we colour code them for ease of reference – red, blue, yellow, and green. They each have characteristics which are useful to any business.
In fact, each colour group has characteristics which are ESSENTIAL to the success of EVERY business..!
Excluding any one of them can cause problems.
Here are seven good reasons not to fall into that trap:
- Your business needs people who love the detail.
We all need people on our team who can pick apart the numbers and get to the nitty gritty of a situation. You may be one of them.
If you’re not, you might find them difficult to deal with.
They infuriate you by refusing to see the big picture.
You infuriate them by refusing to talk about the detail.Think of it like this: if they didn’t do it, you’d have to – and they’re a lot better at it than you.
We call them BLUES.
- You need people who love to have fun.
Some colleagues just love a good time.
As an effective Leader, if you make their day a fun experience, then they’ll be far more productive than if you come down hard on them to knuckle down.
Every workplace needs its funsters – they are the glue which bonds teams and builds workplace trust.
When you need a favour from your employees or colleagues, that bond is important.
- You need people who think in the long term.
People who value business relationships are vital to any workplace.
They cultivate long-term contacts
They think about the impact of business decisions on those relationships
They ensure your customers get the best service possible.
Your Clients love to deal with them..!
They’re great for your word of mouth, and they’re GREENS.
- You need people who make snappy decisions.
Often, businesses have to make swift decisions to avoid losing clients or money. You need the people who are able to make those decisions – when the time and circumstances are right.
They’re often leaders, sometimes your best sales people.
Colleagues who want to spend time thinking things through might irritate them, or they may irritate their colleagues. And with a little guidance – YOUR GUIDANCE – this group of people will do “whatever it takes” to get a positive result. Without them, your business might miss out on sales and growth.
- Speed of decision-making is Important
It’s likely that your suppliers and customers will be drawn from across the board of reds, greens, yellows, and blues.
So, having colleagues who can speak their language will make things easier for your organisation.
And with a little guidance – YOUR GUIDANCE (again) – they can learn to amend their conversation style to communicate more effectively with ANYONE that they meet. They get better at their job, feel more confident, your customers are talking to people who “Get” them, and your business goes from strength to strength.
- A one–dimensional business might be a turn-off for large numbers of potential customers.
If your business is all about the hard sell, you might be putting off a large number of people who think differently to you. This could be holding you back – not just in your sales success, but in the negative “PR Grapevine” that exists in your market.Let me help you clarify the impact of this negative PR Grapevine – What do you think about when I mention Double Glazing Salesmen..??
- Your business strategy needs input from all colours.
How can you plan for the future unless you see the whole picture?
How can you decide on your marketing if you don’t understand all of your potential customers?
How could your team work more effectively together..?
